Basement Set Traction Machines

These machines are designated for installation where there is insufficient room over the hatch for an overhead machine. The Standard Basement Set Machine has a narrow steel outboard stand to allow the traction wheel to project into the hatch.

Rope Grippers

In recent years, there has been a great deal of discussion about the need and requirement for protection against injuries caused by elevator cars leaving the floor with the doors open and overspeeding in the up direction. That’s why the Hollister-Whitney Rope Gripper®, a remarkable device used to grip elevator suspension ropes to stop an elevator in the event of a mechanical or electrical failure. It is imperative if an elevator overspeeds in the up direction and also in if the elevator leaves the floor with the doors opened.

Sheaves

Hollister-Whitney produces; car, counterweight, overhead and deflector sheaves that include the following standard equipment: steel shafts, bearings, support blocks (2 and 4 hole mounting types) and all mounting hardware. These are also available as secondary sheave assemblies, mounted with hanger plates and slip fit shafts. Sizes from 16” to 36” diameter and in widths to suit most applications, Hollister-Whitney sheaves are made to last.

Roller Guide Shoes

Roller Guide SHopes from H-W are “Load Conscious!”. The unique tension system actually causes the rollers to “feel” or “sense” the rail. They adjust for loads near the balanced point and for rail misalignment, while a strong tension takes over to prevent excessive movement as heavier loads are placed off center. Rollers will never leave the rail with this “guide” and the outstanding tension system allows ultra long life of roller wheels. For higher capacities, the ultimate choice is the Hollister-Whitney four-wheel guides. Four wheels control more of the side to side movement.

Rigid and Swivel Guide Shoes

A complete line of heavy-duty rigid guide shoes with cast iron liners and optional lubricator assemblies is available. We also offer lightweight swivel guide shoes with nylon liners that are top quality and very competitively priced. Most shoes do not require adaptor plates when used with our slings and counterweights, but adaptor and retainer plates are readily available.

Disc and Drum Brakes

Hollister-Whitney offers Direct Current Brakes that feature a completely enclosed coil, individual stroke adjustment and are easy to install and adjust. Drum brakes have pivot shoes with toe and heel adjustment, are available in non-standard diameters and split frames. Disc brakes have individual tension and stroke adjustments making them easy to install and maintain. Both styles are available in 115 or 230 volt models.

Safeties

All Hollister-Whitney safety models are designed in compliance with ASME A17.1 and EN81 codes. Stopping forces are automatically exerted equally on both side of the rail. Simplified mounting to the plank channels, easy mounting of the shoes and complete adjustability of the operating linkage make these easy to install. A car safety switch that is activated by the linkage under the car ensures maximum safety.

Overspeed Govenors and Tension Weights

The Hollister-Whitney Overspeed Governor, with standard or live shaft, is designed and built to meet both ASME A17.1 and GSA specifications. Each Governor is tested, preset and sealed at the factory and comes standard with an overspeed switch, rope guard and right or left hand arrangement. A variety of switch types, additional speed reducing switches and encoder mounting brackets are available. Tension Weight assemblies are designed to match and compliment each governor model.

Car Slings and Platforms

At Hollister-Whitney we supply you with a complete line of passenger and freight car slings and platforms for both hydraulic and traction installations. Each car sling and platform assembly is supplied complete with channel stiles, crossheads, gussets, braces, cable hitch plates (traction jobs only), cutout for sills, 26Ga fireproofing on underside of wood platform and one toe guard. Each sling and platform is engineered to the specific application, options include; over-slung or under-slung 2:1 roping, corner posts, multiple passenger openings, freight cabs and gates and anything else the conditions might require.

Counterweight Frames

Hollister-Whitney can supply the counterweight frame as a separate unit or supply the counterweight frame and filler weights. Each counterweight frame is furnished with top and bottom channels, “T” bar side styles, two tie rods and cable hitch plate. A hanger assembly is also available for 2:1 roping.

Spring and Oil Buffers

The Hollister-Whitney Series 500 oil Buffers answer your need for easy-to-install, reliable and rugged car and counterweight oil buffers. These buffers are readily mountable wherever reliable oil buffers are needed. Series 500 Oil Buffers are designed and built to standards and conform to ASME A17.1 and GSA B44 safety codes. They also conform to New York City Housing Authority specifications and have Material and Equipment Acceptance (MEA) approval from the City of New York Department of Buildings.
